Enrollment is initiated by a sending school team. Typically the Local Educational Agency (LEA) for the school district completes the referral paperwork and submits an application. The Mill School staff then review the referral paperwork, as well as all of the supporting documents, such as an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), evaluation reports, behavioral data, and other important documentation. Once that process is complete, and the team agrees to move forward, we invite the student and their guardian(s) in for a tour.
If the tour goes well, the student returns for a class visit. This is an opportunity for the student to be fully immersed in our program and for us to evaluate the student in our school community. The final step is an interview that includes the guardian(s), and we discuss the class visit, historical roadblocks in school, challenges at home, and hopes for the students’ future. Once the interview is complete, if the sending school team, the student, their guardian(s), and the Mill School team all believe they are a good fit, we set a start date.
