  •  We work hard to build positive relationships with families and recognize that even those who may be challenging to engage provide valuable perspectives. By encouraging open communication and teamwork with all families, we strengthen support networks for students and create a more inclusive environment.
  • We are patient. We focus on the long term. This gives us plenty of flexibility to develop student-specific approaches and adjust as needed.
  • We use a method called “structured flexibility.” The school is organized around a system for working with students who struggle (all of our young people), which includes predictable routines of interaction, developing routines to handle changes in routines, and the integrated, conversational use of self-regulatory scripts. We rely on this system to make necessary adjustments to meet each student’s individual needs.
  • We live by our mission to help young people become good humans, so we focus on social cognition, understanding and building positive relationships, and self-advocacy.
  • We help young people develop key skills essential for workplace success, like being punctual, following your boss’s instructions, getting along with coworkers, and working even when you don’t feel like it.
  • We recognize that many of our students struggle with drug use and addiction, and we address these issues through a progressive harm reduction approach. Therefore, we work with students to help them understand the roots of their use and learn ways to resist the impulse to use.
  • We collaborate with community partners to enhance our program and create more opportunities for students. These collaborations offer access to valuable resources and support services, leading to positive experiences for young people.
